To get down to the Custom 24, in a nutshell what you get is a nice flame maple top on a mahogany body and neck, with neck and bridge humbuckers, both of which produce a sweetly voiced midrange bark. The SE Custom 24 I played had a gorgeous, if extremely thin, flamed maple top in a nice Whale Blue (didn’t look like any whale I’ve ever seen). There’s been a rise in RRPs from the SE range over the years, which put it in competition with some serious guitars. One was ordered the other I hand picked. Basically, It felt like any other PRS guitar I’ve played, including those costs 3 … This Korean-built mass of maple, mahogany and rosewood is a classy-looking guitar. It’s a wonderful instrument to play too - all that expertise making eye-wateringly expensive guitars is evident from the moment you pick it up. Quite wide and flat but still substantial, with 24 frets easily accessible. This makes palm-muting a much more pleasant experience, especially if you’re used to chugging away on a Floyd Rose-style bridge. Some guitar companies excel at both quality and consistency. I would also like to mention the fact that the actual rosewood fretboard had a nice dark colour to it, which is good to see, because sourcing good rosewood is now becoming a quality issue for guitar makers.
